A no kill rescue organization dedicated to helping stray, abandoned, disabled and special needs animals |
Wild life rehabbers are a breed of their own that spend endless hours rescuing and caring for orphaned and injured wild life. They get no money for their dedication and all costs incurred are their responsibility to save wild life. This poem reflects on many animal rescue groups that take in more then they should in the hopes they can help these creatures, be it cats, dogs or a fawn or baby bird. They all need our help. Please remember that wild life should be only approached and handled by licensed and trained professionals. Many times animals, especially babies, appear to be orphaned; however, that is not always the case. A list of NYS rehabbers will be added soon with links.
There's Always Room For One More
by Share Bond
I see by his coat he must be a stray;
The untidy look gives him away.
He's lost his will, is so thin,
And hasn't eaten since God knows when.
I know as I coax him through the door,
There's always room for one more.
The other night in the freezing rain,
A little female came again.
Matted and soaked, crying in need,
Lost and alone with babies to feed.
Her pleading eyes I couldn't ignore,
There's always room for one more.
There's a baby raccoon found today,
Hungry but clean, to my dismay.
I stroked her head, her body rippled.
When she got up I saw she was crippled.
She started to go, but fell on the floor.
There's always room for one more.
There's the poor kitty standing in the rain;
I've tried to entice him time and again.
One ear's crumpled, the other's been torn,
Blind in one eye, lost and forlorn.
He's coming now, so I'll open the door.
There's always room for one more.
There's an injured opossum on the side of the street;
I stop, get out of the car in the rain and sleet.
Off to the vet's to save her life,
Another hit to the wallet to add to the strife.
A pouch full of babies numbering four.
There's always room for five more.
There's a litter of orphaned baby skunks that were found;
Emaciated and cold and found on the ground.
Once fed and warmed and cleaned,
I felt so proud I beamed.
A little whiffing, and the neighbor was sore.
There's always room for six more.
There's an abandoned nest of baby birds;
I keep repeating the same old words.
Explaining, educating, teaching,
Frustrated that I don't seem to be reaching.
The numbers are growing and I don't know if I can take more, but
There always seems to be room for one more.
